Copperfield's accuser charged with prostitution

January 27, 2010

BELLEVUE, WA -- A 23-year-old woman who accused illusionist David Copperfield of rape has been charged with misdemeanors in an unrelated case for prostitution and filing a false police report.

Bellevue city prosecutors say Lacey Carroll tried to solicit $2,000 for sex from a 31-year-old man on Dec. 2.

When he refused to pay, she allegedly told hotel staff he tried to take advantage of her. Police reports say she suggested to investigators she had been drugged and awoke to find him on top of her.

Detectives said hotel surveillance video showed the pair behaving affectionately, and a witness reported that Carroll was sexually aggressive toward the man earlier in the evening.

Carroll accused Copperfield of raping her on his private island in the Bahamas two years ago, but federal prosecutors in Seattle closed their investigation this month without filing charges.
